In a fusion of sport and pop culture, the New Zealand Super Rugby Clubs (NZSRC) have partnered with Classic Sportswear to launch a dynamic new merchandise range featuring Marvel Super Heroes.

The two-year collaboration will see each club align with an iconic Marvel character, bringing an extra level of excitement to fans across the region.

The range will debut during the DHL Super Rugby Pacific season, with each team wearing specially designed jerseys that reflect the traits of their chosen character. The teams and their corresponding Marvel identities are as follows:

  • Chiefs – Black Panther
  • Blues – Spider-Man
  • Crusaders – Iron Man
  • Hurricanes – Captain America
  • Highlanders – Hulk

These bold designs will take centre stage during the ‘Super Kids’ Round on March 14-15, when the teams will wear their Marvel-inspired jerseys in official matches.

Commenting on the partnership, Chiefs CEO, Simon Graafhuis, said: “Our players are seen as heroes to our fans, so it’s fantastic to collaborate with Marvel to feature their iconic Super Heroes on the New Zealand Super Rugby Club’s jerseys. We are sure our fans and players alike will be keen to wear the Marvel-themed kit.”

VP & GM Disney Consumer Products in Australia and New Zealand, Tim Everett, added: “We’re thrilled to bring the world of Marvel Super Heroes to life for New Zealand Super Rugby and Classic Sportswear in the heart of New Zealand’s premier rugby competition.”

“This collaboration marks a unique fusion of sport and Marvel storytelling, offering fans a dynamic new way to engage with both their favourite Super Heroes and the passion of Super Rugby Pacific. We are excited to see these iconic characters inspire and energise the next generation of rugby supporters across Aotearoa,” he said.

This themed round aims to engage younger audiences while adding a new layer of entertainment to the rugby experience.

On the clubs and Marvel, Classic Sportswear CEO, Ross Smart, said: “Classic is proud to be part of such an exciting collaboration, and we commend the clubs and the Marvel team for bringing the range to life. The gear looks great – players love it, fans love it – and we can’t wait to see it in the stands and on the field this Super Kids Round.”

Fans eager to get their hands on the Marvel Super Hero jerseys and supporter gear can purchase them online and through select retailers from early March.
