WHOOP Unveils New Tech For Smart Wearables Following A $3.6 Billion Valuation

WHOOP has revealed the next generation of technology for its smart wearables and has also confirmed an expansion of its product line by introducing smart clothing.

WHOOP 4.0 is 33% smaller than the existing strap, with a five-day battery life and a new health monitor that provides heart rate, skin temperature, blood oxygen saturation, resting heart rate, heart rate variability, and respiratory rate.

The active sensor area also features 5 LEDs — three green, one red, and one infrared — 4 photodiodes, and “advanced algorithms.”

Additionally, WHOOP 4.0 is the first product in the world to incorporate the Sila’s silicon anode battery material, providing higher energy density per cell.

WHOOP CEO and Founder, Will Ahmed, said: “I’ve been thinking about this technology for more than a decade, and I can promise you that this is the most innovative product we have ever released.

“We’ve always aspired to develop wearable technology that is either cool or invisible.

“With the launch of WHOOP 4.0 and WHOOP Body, we have accomplished both.”

The company’s move means The Whoop module that’s normally worn on the wrist has been redesigned so that it can also be attached to Whoop-branded athletic apparel.

The Training Collection includes sports bras, compression tops, leggings, shorts, and athletic boxers.

The Intimates Collection includes bralettes and everyday boxers. WHOOP Body and SuperKnit Bands are only available in combination with WHOOP 4.0.

On August 30, the human performance company announced that it had raised US$200 million in a Series F funding round at a US$3.6 billion valuation led by SoftBank Vision Fund 2.

Participating investors include IVP, Cavu Ventures, Thursday Ventures, GP Bullhound, Accomplice, NextView Ventures, and Animal Capital.

WHOOP is now the most valuable standalone human performance company in the world.
