The Wallaroos and the Australian Women’s Cricket Team have joined forces in a cross-code training session, sharing skills and insights ahead of their respective World Cup campaigns.
The session, held as both teams prepare for global competition, reflects a broader shift in Australian women’s sport towards collaboration and mutual growth. The Wallaroos, led by head coach Jo Yapp, are set to travel to England, while the Women’s Cricket Team will defend their ODI World Cup title in India this October.
Wallaroos players Desiree Miller, Annabelle Codey, and Tia Hinds took part in cricket batting and bowling drills. In return, cricketers Ash Gardner and Phoebe Litchfield explored rugby techniques, including kicking and tackling. The session aimed to build camaraderie and expose athletes to fresh approaches in training and mindset.
Cricket star Ash Gardner welcomed the experience: “We actually haven’t done a lot of cross-code stuff before, so just to hang out with other female athletes is a lot of fun and a completely different experience.”
This collaboration underscores the increasing interconnectedness across women’s elite sport in Australia. It highlights opportunities for shared learning, athlete development, and unified storytelling that strengthens both codes, on and off the field.
As both teams eye podium finishes in 2025, the session serves as a reminder of the benefits of breaking down traditional sporting silos and embracing the collective strength of Australia’s top female athletes.
