UFC Planning International MMA Fights On An Island

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) president, Dana White, is finalising plans to hold international MMA fights on an unknown island after being unable to hold any events since March 15 due to COVID-19 (Coronavirus).

The UFC was forced to cancel a fight between lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson as Nurmagomedov was not allowed to leave Russia amid travel restrictions.

White said he is still determined to hold UFC 249 on April 18 after replacing Nurmagomedov with American Justin Gaethje.

“I’m this close to getting a deal done so this place where this fight is going to be on April 18, I have locked up for two months,” White said.

“So I’m going to continue to pump fights out.

“I’ve also secured an island.

“I’ve got an island.

“The infrastructure is being built right now.

“We’re going to do all of our international fights on this island,” he said.

White did not disclose where the island is located, however, said it is in response to most US states implementing restrictions making it impossible to stage an event, even without an audience.

“The fight is signed and is 100% on live on ESPN somewhere on Earth,” White shared on Twitter.

The planning of UFC fights on an island comes after the last UFC event on March 15 in Brazil was held behind closed doors and was followed by a fight night in London being cancelled, along with two other cards that were scheduled in at UFC’s headquarters in Las Vegas.

UFC 249 was originally booked in at a venue in Brooklyn but was told the venue would not allow the event to be held due to mass gathering restrictions several weeks ago.
