A new sports and cultural project is being proposed in the United Arab Emirates, aiming to establish what would become the world’s first Football Ball Museum.
While major football clubs and FIFA itself already host museums celebrating their histories, this project seeks to shift focus toward the game’s universal symbol: the ball.
Positioned as both a cultural and commercial venture, the proposed museum would combine heritage, entertainment, and tourism within one concept, with developers suggesting it could become a new attraction in either Dubai or Abu Dhabi.
According to the project proposal, the foundation for the collection is already in place, featuring over 100 unique footballs, with agreements secured to acquire an additional 300–500 from major private collectors worldwide. The vision is to build a 2,000-strong collection within two years, making it the largest of its kind globally.
The organisers are seeking an investment of between USD1.4–2.4 million (AUD2.1–3.5 million), structured in several tranches, to fund acquisitions and the launch of the museum.
The investment model proposes a 50/50 partnership, with the investor providing financial capital while the project founder undertakes sourcing and acquisition responsibilities.
The long-term plan includes developing a flagship museum in the UAE, while also exploring temporary exhibitions and regional partnerships across other Gulf states, including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, and Qatar.
Beyond Traditional Museum Exhibition
The project’s business model outlines different revenue opportunities, from ticketing and merchandise to NFT collections, VIP experiences, and travelling exhibitions.
Proponents say the concept reflects the UAE’s reputation for executing bold, globally minded projects, leveraging its established position as a hub for tourism and major sporting events.
Dubai and Abu Dhabi have both become strategic locations for international sports ventures, hosting events across football, Formula 1, tennis, and golf.
Looking Ahead
The Football Ball Museum could mark the emergence of a new niche in sports heritage tourism, blending commercial appeal with cultural storytelling.
The project’s backers describe it as a chance to “co-create a project that is both commercially successful and culturally significant, one that will inspire millions and stand as a legacy for generations to come.”
