Tottenham to play Liverpool in first game at new $1.5 billion stadium

English Premier League’s Tottenham Hotspur will play Liverpool in the first game at their new stadium on the weekend of 15-16 September.

The $1.5 billion stadium will seat 62,000 spectators and have the largest single tier stand in the UK, with 17,000 seats.

The stadium boasts an in-house bakery, a micro-brewery able to deliver 10,000 pints per minute and has plans to deliver up to 16 non-football events each year.

It is close to completion but will not be ready for the start of the Premier League season, forcing them to play Fulham at Wembley in their first home game of the season on the weekend of 18-19 August.

“We discussed the timings and ability to play away games and I think it is a good solution to have an earlier home game,”  Tottenham Manager, Mauricio Pochettino said.

“Wembley was great for us last season and we are even more used to that than we are the new stadium.”

This is first time a club has been allowed to play home games at two venues in the same season.

“I have stood inside the bowl and I know the atmosphere will be unbelievable – it will be well worth the wait,” he said.

Tottenham Chairman, Daniel Levy added: “I am absolutely delighted to announce the date of our first match in our new home.

“Our fans have been hugely supportive and this has been much appreciated during a challenging but momentous time.”
