Toronto Tempo Announced as Canada’s First WNBA Franchise

Toronto has unveiled the Toronto Tempo as its first Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) franchise. The team, owned by Kilmer Sports Ventures, will begin competing in 2026, becoming the league’s first expansion team outside the United States.

The Tempo’s name and identity came after a public engagement initiative, “Name Your Team,” featuring input from over 10,000 participants across Canada and globally. Encorporating both the region’s French and English community, their name seeks to create an inclusive brand for their diverse fans.

The team will play its home games at Toronto’s Coca-Cola Coliseum, further expanding the city’s growing sports portfolio.
