Italian professional football clubs, Inter Milan and AC Milan who both compete in the top flight series A competition in Italy, are close to unveiling plans on a joint venture to build a brand new stadium.

Italian publication La Repubblica, recently claimed that the two Milan clubs are willing to proceed with a brand new, €600m stadium situated just a few hundred metres away from the San Siro.

Opening in 1926, San Siro has already had several renovations for the 1990 World Cup, but, the feeling from the clubs is that there is more value in building a new stadium as opposed to renovating, which is expected to take more time and money.

“A stadium is a very important asset in modern football,” Inter chief executive, Alessandro Antonello told Sky News Italy.

“We are working together at San Siro stadium and shortly we will tell Milan’s mayor about our decision.

“We are hoping to get collaboration (with AC Milan and Milan authorities).”

The collaboration between Inter and AC Milan, will not only benefit the clubs financially but will deliver Milan a stadium worthy of the top European cities, with Atlanta United’s futuristic Mercedes Benz Stadium believed to be an inspiration for the two clubs.
