Tennis Australia has unveiled an international activation, outlining a comprehensive global calendar of events, fan engagement programs, and grassroots development platforms in the lead-up to Australian Open 2027.
The international expansion strategy aims to strengthen the Grand Slam’s global brand footprint, drive international tourist visitation to Victoria, and establish year-round fan engagement across key markets including Asia, South America, and North America.
The international event calendar features a six-city AO 1 Point Slam across major Chinese metropolitan centers, consulate and business networking forums in India, ballkid trials in Korea, and dedicated junior pathway tournaments in Japan and Brazil.
Additionally, Tennis Australia is launching its premium hospitality arm, AO Reserve, across commercial hubs in Hong Kong and Singapore, alongside live site fan activations at Clarke Quay in partnership with broadcaster beIN Sports.
The push reinforces the tournament’s role as a major driver of economic stimulus for Victoria and a premier international sports media property.
Highlighting the vision behind taking the Grand Slam directly to international consumers, Tennis Australia CEO, Andrew Abdo, said: “The Australian Open is truly a global brand and connects with fans year-round, bringing the excitement of the tournament to audiences around the world.”
“Our strategy is simple, we want to bring AO experiences directly to fans wherever they are in the world and create ongoing, meaningful connections throughout the year.
“Whether they are travelling to attend in person, tuning into the broadcast or following our channels,” he said.
Alongside physical market activations, Australian Open 2027 will launch “AO Superfans,” an innovative global content initiative that follows six international supporters whose tournament access is directly tied to the performance of their favourite players.
The expansion strategy is backed by strong commercial and economic data from Australian Open 2026. An independent economic impact assessment conducted by IER Pty Ltd revealed that AO 2026 generated $722.32 million in total expenditure stimulus for Melbourne, a 27 per cent year-on-year increase, bringing the tournament’s ten-year economic contribution to Victoria above $3.9 billion.
The 2026 event generated a record 705,239 hotel bed nights in Melbourne, supported by an attendee breakdown comprising 18.6 per cent interstate visitors and 7.9 per cent international travelers.
On screen, AO 2026 achieved a global cumulative broadcast reach of 2.2 billion people across 136,769 total coverage hours, led by record US viewership of 100 million hours viewed.
Digital engagement surged simultaneously, generating 4.6 billion social media impressions and 1.1 billion impressions via influencer collaborations.
