hinese media and entertainment conglomerate, Tencent, has signed a three-year video content deal with automated sports highlights creator, WSC Sports.

As part of the agreement, WSC sports will also provide Tencent sports, and the company’s other divisions, with automatic video solutions to create personalised content distributed to Tencent’s more than 100 million users and subscribers.

Tencent has Chinese rights to livestream games from top leagues such as the NBA, MLB, the NFL and English Premier League, which will showcase WSC sports’ video tools.

As a result of mobile broadband infrastructure upgrades, including the introduction of 5G, short form video is becoming a key pillar of Tencent’s digital strategy.

The Israeli company partnership is designed to support that strategy, with WSC sports solutions said to be capable of increasing the output of sports highlights by ten times and enhancing production efficiency by 12 times.

WSC Sports co-founder and chief business development officer, Aviv Arnon, said China has one of the strongest sport fan bases in the world, and he hopes WSC can provide Chinese sport fans with engaging content.

“China boasts one of the most robust sports fanbases in the world, with interest across multiple sports and leagues worldwide,” Arnon said.

“This partnership is aimed at growing that fandom by providing Chinese sports fans with personalised and innovative experiences and exposing them to a large variety of content with which they can engage,” he said.
