TalkSport secures Olympic broadcasting rights in UK and Ireland

UK commercial radio broadcaster TalkSport has secured non-exclusive 2024 Paris Olympic Games coverage rights in the UK and Ireland.

In a recent agreement, TalkSport will deliver commentary for the upcoming Olympics this Northern Hemisphere summer – facilitated by a sublicense arrangement with Warner Bros. Discovery.

The partnership extends to the broader News Broadcasting Network, encompassing TalkSport’s parent company and including Virgin Radio UK, Times Radio and TalkRadio, as well as the network’s Irish stations, which will all be broadcasting the Olympics.

This marks the first instance of commercial radio obtaining broadcasting rights for the Olympics.

“It’s such a thrill to be able to deliver the Olympics to TalkSport listeners with our world-class commentary team and presenters informing and entertaining fans every step of the way,” said Liam Fisher, Head of TalkSport.

“We are extremely excited to take on the mantle of broadcasting rights for the Olympics, with our wide array of pundits expertly placed to deliver commentary across the sporting disciplines.”

In addition to the Olympics, TalkSport holds coverage rights for the England cricket team’s tour of India, Euro 2024 (football) and The Open (golf), and provides commentary on the English Premier League.

Last November, TalkSport’s boxing division entered into a multi-event partnership with UK boxing promoter GBM Sports, ensuring exclusive broadcasting rights for GBM Sports boxing events on TalkSport boxing’s YouTube channel.

Apart from radio coverage, UK audiences can also stream the Olympics via the Discovery+ service, as well as on the Eurosport and BBC television channels.
