The Nine Network has reinforced its dominant position in Australian sports broadcasting, securing one of the largest television audiences of the year as the Sydney Roosters claimed victory in the 2026 National Rugby League Grand Final.

Official OzTAM national TV audience figures released on Monday confirmed a massive viewership of 4.29 million, highlighting the commercial appeal and mass-market reach of rugby league content.

Although tracking slightly below the record 4.46 million viewers recorded during the 2025 championship decider, the broadcast footprint highlights the immense value delivered to corporate partners, brand sponsors, and media networks operating within the competitive Australian sports economy.

The fixture demonstrated a big  shift towards digital consumption, with 1.5 million sports fans tuning in via BVOD streaming platforms to catch the live action. Geographic metrics illustrated robust engagement across key capital cities and regional territories, anchored by 1.16 million viewers in Sydney and 1.59 million across regional markets.

Strong performance was also recorded in competitive interstate markets, with Brisbane drawing 737,000 viewers, Melbourne capturing 441,000, Perth registering 160,000, and Adelaide contributing 130,000 to the national tally.

The stellar ratings performance provided a significant halo effect across Nine’s broader editorial and broadcasting ecosystem, with Nine News dominating evening bulletins by capturing 1.43 million viewers.

Furthermore, the exceptional audience reach achieved during Sunday’s championship decider highlights the sophisticated integration between linear television and streaming innovations.
