Sydney FC has announced a partnership extension with international retail giant Sports Direct Australia, marking their first full season together for the upcoming 2026/27 A-League campaign.
The agreement builds upon an initial collaborative rollout launched midway through last season, which saw the sporting retailer integrate within the Sky Blues’ ecosystem through player appearances, ticket promotions, matchday big-screen activations, and exclusive fan experiences at Allianz Stadium.
The extension aligns with Sports Direct’s broader strategy to expand its retail presence across Australia following major store launches, using elite domestic football to drive community engagement and customer acquisition beyond traditional retail locations.
Highlighting the potential of a full-season integration, Sydney FC GM of commercial and marketing, Matt Pound, emphasised the broader brand alignment.
“Sports Direct shares the passion for football that sits at the heart of our Club and our fanbase.”
“What makes the partnership exciting is what we can create beyond matchday. It gives our Members and fans new ways to engage with Sydney FC, while introducing the Club to Sports Direct customers through experiences and access they wouldn’t ordinarily have.
“We had a great start together last season and we’re looking forward to seeing what we can do across a full season,” Pound said.
From a brand perspective, the commercial relationship directly supports Sports Direct Australia’s overarching consumer positioning strategy, “Sport Starts Here,” which aims to make athletic participation accessible to diverse demographics.
Sports Direct Australia marketing manager, Nickolas Britton, underscored the authentic connection established through the football club.
“Football has always been a huge part of Sports Direct.”
“It’s played everywhere, followed everywhere and has the ability to turn a first pair of boots, a favourite player or a trip to a match into a lifelong passion for the sport.
“That’s why Sydney FC is such a strong partner for us.
“It gives us an authentic way to be part of football in Sydney and create experiences for our customers that go beyond what happens in our stores.
“Sport Starts Here is about making sport feel accessible to everyone.
“Whether you’re playing, watching or discovering football for the first time, there should be a place for you in the game,” Britton said.
The ongoing partnership offers mutual commercial value, connecting Sydney FC’s dedicated membership base with one of the world’s most recognisable sports retailers while positioning Sports Direct at the heart of local football culture.
Throughout the 2026/27 season, Sydney FC and Sports Direct Australia will roll out an expanded schedule of fan activations and customer incentive programs across matchday and retail platforms.
