Swifts-Giants Derby sells out in record time

The upcoming Suncorp Super Netball Round 12 Derby between the NSW Swifts and Giants has rapidly sold out, with 10,000 tickets claimed for the match scheduled for Sunday, 22 June, at Ken Rosewall Arena.

This rapid sell-out is a significant commercial indicator for Australia’s premier female sports league, underscoring strong consumer demand and effective marketing strategies employed by clubs and the league to drive attendance and engagement.

Commenting on the sold-out tickets, executive general manager of the Swifts, Jeremy Butler, said: “Fans are voting with their feet and those feet are walking to stadiums to see Suncorp Super Netball.”

“Netball has long led the way for female athletes in team sports, and now the theatre and event spectacle matches the exceptional athletic performance on the court.

“This success is no coincidence but the result of sustained efforts from Clubs like the Swifts, both on the training ground and behind the scenes over many years,” Butler said.

The capacity crowd for the Swifts-hosted Derby reflects the growing market appeal and industry impact of netball in Australia.

With the Swifts currently leading the ladder with an 8-1 win-loss ratio, the fixture carries significant competitive weight, contributing to its commercial success. The fact that the only remaining pathway to attendance is through a limited offering of 2-Game Memberships, which include the Derby ticket and a subsequent First Nations Clash, demonstrates a strategic bundling approach to membership sales and fan acquisition.

The strong attendance trends are not isolated to Sydney. The Swifts have maintained an average crowd of 8,000 fans per game throughout the season, with other Suncorp Super Netball teams, including the West Coast Fever, Melbourne Vixens, Adelaide Thunderbirds, and Queensland Firebirds, also reporting recent sell-out crowds.
