Staveley Consortium Agrees GBP150 Million Deal for West Ham Shareholding Amid Ownership Battle

West Ham United’s ownership structure is facing a major shake-up after Joint-Chair Vanessa Gold agreed to sell her family’s entire 25.1 per cent shareholding to a consortium led by former Newcastle United co-owner Amanda Staveley.

Valued at GBP150 million, the transaction implies an equity valuation of approximately GBP598 million for the club.

The agreement arrives at a critical financial juncture following West Ham’s relegation to the Championship, a campaign where the organisation recorded a pre-tax loss of GBP104.2 million and a turnover decline to GBP227.6 million for the 2024/25 financial year.

While a legally binding share purchase agreement has been signed between the Staveley-led consortium, which includes Mehrdad Ghodoussi, PCP Capital Partners, and Ashland Forest Capital Partners, and the Gold family, completion remains subject to existing pre-emption rights held by current shareholders.

These rights allow major stakeholders, including David Sullivan and Czech billionaire Daniel Křetínský’s 1890s Holdings, to acquire the shares before the external consortium. Křetínský, who owns 27 per cent of the club, is currently reviewing all available options, including exercising his pre-emption rights in full and potentially offering a GBP100 million loan to bolster squad investment.

Explaining her decision to exit the family shareholding following the passing of her father and former Joint-Chair David Gold, Vanessa Gold stated that protecting the club’s future and securing robust leadership remained paramount.

“My ambition throughout this process has been to ensure the club has the right leadership and ownership,” Gold said.

Gold also noted that previous agreements with Křetínský could not be completed, clearing the path for the Staveley consortium agreement reported by Sky Sports.

Although the reported GBP150 million transaction covers existing shares rather than injecting immediate operating capital into the club, the involvement of Staveley and Ghodoussi brings proven football administrative experience following their successful tenure at Newcastle United.

The pre-emption process is expected to take approximately two months, leaving day-to-day operations unaffected while determining whether the Staveley consortium secures its position as West Ham’s third-largest investor or if existing power dynamics shift entirely under Křetínský or Sullivan.
