Leading pay-TV broadcaster Star India has announced a collaboration with data and analytics provider CricViz for the upcoming ICC Men’s Twenty20 World Cup and Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket tournaments slated for later this year.

Under the partnership, Star India has appointed CricViz as its official data analysis and insights partner ahead of both the 2024 domestic franchise IPL, scheduled from late-March to late-May, and the forthcoming edition of the T20 World Cup, taking place from June 1-29 in the US and Caribbean.

As part of the tie-up, Star will leverage CricViz analysts across live broadcasts to enhance on-screen graphics and provide insightful analysis for pre and post-match shows, offering viewers a fresh and unique perspective on the game.

Star Sports holds exclusive rights to the T20 World Cup through a comprehensive deal with the International Cricket Council (ICC) since mid-2022, as well as linear TV rights to this year’s 10-team IPL.

CricViz, owned by Ellipse, the company behind tennis analytics platform TennisViz, has previously collaborated with South Africa’s SA20 T20 franchise league, providing data, visualisations, and analysis across digital platforms during the tournament.

Meanwhile, the ICC has initiated a tender process for media strategy, buying and planning services for the T20 World Cup across the US and Caribbean regions. The governing body is seeking an Indian agency with extensive experience in delivering end-to-end media solutions for global events to develop and execute the tournament campaign.

The ICC’s media rights sales process for its next commercial cycle, beginning with the T20 World Cup, is currently underway in key markets.

Recent announcements have unveiled deals in India, the UK, the US, Australia, the Middle East and North Africa, and South Africa, with coverage in New Zealand and the Caribbean expected to follow soon.
