roadcast rights for the British and Irish Lions tour of South Africa have been secured by Stan Sport in a deal that includes a number of Lions documentaries.

Stan Sport will broadcast all eight games of the 2021 Castle Larger Lions Series which kicks off on July 4.

The matches, which are due to be played between 12am and 4am Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST), will be available for subscribers ad-free, live and on-demand.

In addition to the tour, Stan Sport will broadcast the warm-up match between the Lions and Japan, as well as documentaries including: Living with the Lions, Up Close and Personal, Inside the Lion’s Den, Living with Pride, Lions Raw and Lions Uncovered being aired on Stan.

The Sydney Morning Herald report Rugby Australia (RA) offered to host the both the Lions and the South African Springbok if the tour was unable to be held in South Africa due to COVID19.

Though RA promised all profits from the series would go to the Lions and South Africa, but the offer was rejected after RA were unable to guarantee exact crowd figures.

Stan used Rugby Union to launch their sport platform in February with owner, Nine Entertainment’s CEO Mike Sneesby, telling the Macquarie Australia Conference “Stan Sport is off to a fantastic start with rugby driving strong engagement…”

The addition of the Lions’ content will add to the growing number of high-profile sporting events to be streamed on the site, which is currently broadcasting the Rolland-Garros tennis tournament.
