Ahead of the heavyweight boxing matchup between NRL star, Sonny Bill Williams, and former AFL star, Barry Hall, Stan has announced the launch of Stan Event, a new pay-per-view platform.
The boxing matchup, marketed as ‘Turf War’, will signal the launch of the platform on 23 March, with Stan customers able to access the fight for $50, and will see Stan continue its pursuit of sports, challenging Foxtel’s pay-per-view offering.
Discussing the launch of the platform, Stan acting CEO, Martin Kugeler, said: “This announcement highlights another major milestone for Stan, with Turf War set to be one of Australia’s biggest sporting spectacles in 2022.”
The boxing matchup will be streamed in venues throughout Australia as part of the Stan Sport Venues offering, extending Stan’s sporting broadcast rights further.
With boxing now a part of the Stan offering, Stan now holds rights to the UEFA Championship League, rugby union in several competitions, tennis, motorsport and sees them continuously targeting more football rights.
Stan Sport recently confirmed a multi-year partnership for the broadcast rights of the Six Nations Rugby Championship, which is due to begin on 6 February and will be played throughout February and March.
The partnership also covers the Women’s Six Nations Rugby Championship and the men’s Under 20s tournament, with Stan Sport to cover fifteen matches across five rounds between Ireland, Wales, Scotland, England, France, and Italy.
