The St George Illawarra Dragons have concluded another successful Best You Can Be Blitz, a three-day community outreach program delivered to a number of schools across the Central West region of New South Wales last week, in partnership with Squadron Energy.
The trip saw Dragons NRLW players, Keele Browne and Ella Koster travel alongside members of the Dragons Community staff. The itinerary included multiple school visits and community activities, reflecting the club’s commitment to extending its community programming to regional areas, particularly where major partner Squadron Energy operates.
Commenting on the reception on how the team was received during the extensive road trip, NRLW star, Ella Koster, said:
“I’ve had the best time coming out here and visiting these kids.”
“They have been incredibly welcoming and have had great attitudes throughout it al,” Koster said.
Koster also noted the value of the club’s involvement in such initiatives, acknowledging the critical support from the corporate sector that facilitates the regional outreach.
“I’m proud to be a part of a club involved in these sorts of initiatives and we’re thankful for the role that Squadron has played in helping us come out here,” she added.
The team made stops at eight different schools in the region, including Ilford Public School, Kandos Public School, Dunedoo Central School, Mendooran Central School, Gilgandra Public School, St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School Gilgandra, and St Michaels Catholic Primary, Dunedoo.
In addition to the school sessions, the team hosted a touch football clinic in Dunedoo and a “Win The Morning” event in collaboration with the Gilgandra Shire Breakfast Club.
At each location, the players and staff conducted a series of interactive workshops tailored for local primary students. These sessions focused on the club’s established health and wellbeing program, officially titled ‘The Best You Can Be’, which is now in its eleventh year of operation.
The program is designed to guide students in making positive, informed decisions related to their health and overall wellbeing.
A Workshop Based on Health and Lifestyle
These included advice on maintaining an active lifestyle, the promotion of social concepts such as tolerance, respect, and inclusiveness, and practical guidance on essential physical health factors, including the importance of adequate sleep, responsible screen time management, proper hydration, and nutrition.
The sessions also incorporated discussions on the important role students play in environmental stewardship and taking care of the local environment.
The partnership with Squadron Energy, Australia’s renewable energy company which is the Major Partner of the St George Illawarra Dragons NRL and NRLW teams, helps fund and support the delivery of these community blitzes into regional areas of NSW, including the Central-West Orana and Riverina regions, where the energy company has key projects under development or in operation.
