Italian tennis fans turned out in droves to witness history at the Australian Open men’s final, where Jannik Sinner clinched victory to become the nation’s first male grand slam champion since 1976.

Eurosport Italy, under the Warner Bros. Discovery umbrella, proudly announced that their broadcast of Sinner’s stunning five-set triumph over Daniil Medvedev garnered the largest audience ever recorded in Italy for a single sports broadcast during Eurosport’s 34-year tenure.

The conclusion of the tournament in Melbourne captured a remarkable 17 percent audience share in Italy, with a staggering 313 percent surge in TV viewership – a jump largely attributed to Sinner’s stellar performance.

Eurosport’s broadcasting rights for the Australian Open span across Europe, a deal inked in September 2021, extending through to the 2031 event.

There was an 89 percent increase in streaming subscribers for the discovery+ over-the-top platform, managed by Warner Bros. Discovery, which also streamed the final in Italy.

Overall, WBD’s sports streaming platforms, including discovery+ and the Eurosport App, experienced a substantial 30 percent boost in unique viewership in Italy for the memorable decider.

Eurosport.com’s regional sites throughout Europe witnessed a notable 61 percent uptick in unique visitors throughout the tournament, with Italy’s increase soaring 247 percent.

WBD had already celebrated record-breaking digital viewership during the tournament’s initial week.
