SGIO will not renew partnership with Eagles after 30-years

Western Australia Insurer SGIO will end its 30-year partnership with West Coast Eagles AFL team at the end of the season.

The two brands have been synonymous since SGIO joined the Eagles as a co-major sponsor in 1988. SGIO has been associated with the club ever since – either as a co-major or major sponsor in its own right.

West Coast Eagles Chief Executive Officer Trevor Nisbett, who has been at the club for 29 of those years, said:

“Obviously when a relationship of this standing comes to an end it is disappointing, but we appreciate that SGIO wants to take a different course,” Nisbett said.

“It has been a fruitful relationship for both parties, but we will now begin the search to replace SGIO.

“It is an exciting phase for our club with a new logo, new stadium, soon to be new home at Lathlain Park and a developing list.

“A new major sponsor would represent just the fifth brand to adorn the West Coast Eagles guernsey”.

SGIO Chief Marketing Officer Brent Smart said the insurer was proud of its successful history with the West Coast Eagles but the time had come to end its tenure with the club.

“We have decided not to continue our sponsorship of the West Coast Eagles once the 2018 season ends,” Smart said.

“This is a commercial decision for our business and not reflective of the strength of the club and our partnership.

“We are proud of what we have achieved together over the past 32 years, particularly our initiatives supporting fans, grassroots football and the local community.

“We will continue to support the club for the remainder of the 2018 season and look forward to following the club’s continued success.”
