SailGP Sets Course for Expansion with IMG Partnership Extension
Global sail racing league, SailGP, has announced a multi-year renewal agreement with international sports and entertainment agency, IMG, in a deal aiming to drive the future growth of the sport.
The deal will see IMG focus on expanding SailGP’s global media rights distribution, working alongside SailGP’s strategic in-house team to develop new commercial partnerships for the league and its participating teams.
The league recently unveiled its Season 4 calendar, targeting expansion in North America with new sail events in New York, Canada, and Los Angeles, alongside events in the Middle East, Europe, and Australasia.
IMG will continue to shape the league’s long-term growth ambitions, whilst supporting SailGP’s commitment to championing a world powered by nature through transformational sustainability and purpose-led partnerships.
Commenting on the extension, SailGP managing director, Andy Thompson, said: “IMG has been an integral part of our success and growth to date, working in partnership with our own commercial and broadcast teams.
“The extension of our agreement with IMG is a key part of this strategy as we continue to develop exciting new commercial partnerships for the league, our teams, and our events that we believe will be game-changing, not just for SailGP but also for the wider industry,” he said.
IMG president of global partnerships, Robbie Henchman, added: “In just three seasons, SailGP has quickly established itself as one of the world’s fastest-growing sports properties and we, like so many fans around the world, are excited about the future of this dynamic, forward-thinking league.”
“Together with SailGP and IMG’s global network and expertise, we aim to continue delivering major partnerships that can be transformational for SailGP and the broader industry, fuelling further global reach, fan engagement, and long-term commercial growth,” Henchman said.
The fast-growing racing league first partnered with IMG under strategic investor, Endeavor in 2020, and has since significantly grown its fanbase, events calendar, broadcast agreements, and roster of partners, which includes names like Rolex, Oracle, NEAR, and Cognizant.
SailGP and IMG are continuing to explore further growth opportunities together via areas of the Endeavor network, including Seven League, 160over90, Film 45, and Endeavor Analytics.
