Roosters And SCG Trust Sign 25-Year Partnership

The Sydney Roosters and the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground (SCG) have signed a 25-year partnership that will see the reigning NRL premiers play home games and finals at the Allianz Sydney Football Stadium when it opens in 2022.

This deal marks the longest hiring agreement between a club and a stadium in rugby league history, set to run until 2046.

Sydney Roosters Chairman, Nick Politis, said the deal is exciting for the whole organisation and for rugby league in general.

“These grounds have always been our spiritual home and the binding agreement we’ve signed with the SCG means this will always be our home.

“We played our first matches here at the old Show Ground, moved to the Sports Ground and then Allianz Stadium,” Mr Politis said.

“We’ve had some of our most famous moments on the SCG, including the 1974-75 premierships that marked the start of my involvement with the Roosters.

“It cannot happen soon enough,” he said.

Sydney Roosters CEO, Joe Kelly, said the deal is a significant achievement for the club.

“We believe signing up long-term to what will be a world-class sporting venue is in the best interests of our members and supporters.

“We have been assured that the public facilities will provide a spectator experience unlike Sydney has ever seen,” Mr Kelly said.

The stadium, which is set to be opened in early 2022, is being rebuilt for approximately $729 million and is expected to be world-class and offer an unrivalled experience in Australia.
