Robins Foundation to Host Public Engagement on Filwood Plans

The Bristol City Robins Foundation, in partnership with Mendip Broadwalk Football Club, is spearheading the development of a new sports and education hub at Filwood Playing Fields.

This initiative is now entering a critical public engagement phase, which aims to gather input from the local community.

Today, 16 July 2025, the Robins Foundation hosts a public engagement event at the Filwood Fields Pavilion.

This event invites community members from Filwood to voice their opinions regarding the next stages of development for the Filwood Playing Fields, underscoring the foundation’s commitment to community involvement in shaping local sports facilities.

The engagement process is essential to the planning application, providing a platform for local residents, community groups, and stakeholders to review proposals, raise questions, and offer feedback on the envisioned developments for Filwood.

Representatives in attendance include personnel from both the Robins Foundation and Mendip Broadwalk Football Club, alongside Bristol City Council representatives, planning consultants from Tetlow King, and youth representatives from the Youth Council.

The proposed development plans are geared towards establishing modern, inclusive, and accessible sports facilities that will serve the community while preserving the shared space for future generations.

The vision encompasses the construction of a new club house, changing rooms, educational classrooms, and a café, in addition to the installation of 3G Astro pitches and enhanced grass pitches.

These efforts will not only improve the existing infrastructure but also demonstrate a lasting commitment to safeguarding the land for sport, education, and community use, reinforced through a deed of dedication with Fields in Trust.

Moreover, the site benefits from the investment in a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) funded by Bristol City Council as part of the Filwood Broadway Levelling Up Fund, further enhancing the local sporting landscape.

Participants at the engagement event have opportunities to review the latest designs and provide feedback either through printed questionnaires or via a digital QR code, ensuring their insights contribute directly to the planning submission. This feedback plays a pivotal role in shaping the development to better cater to the needs of the Filwood community.

The ultimate objective of the Foundation is to foster a sustainable, inclusive environment that promotes participation in sport at all levels, including walking football, disability sessions, junior grassroots leagues, and informal community activities.
