Automotive club RAC is set to acquire naming rights to Perth Arena under a new five-year deal worth an estimated $10 million.
The McGowan Government will receive an expected $2 million a year, which will be used to help pay down State debt.
Confirmation is expected within weeks that RAC WA has secured the naming rights for the Wellington Street venue.
RAC general manager of corporate affairs, Will Golsby, refused to confirm the rumours.
“As a founding partner of Perth Arena and sponsor of the venue’s RAC Local Lounge, RAC has had conversations surrounding the State Government’s naming rights strategy, as no doubt many organisations have.”
Sport and Recreation Minister, Mick Murray, could not confirm the news either.
“Perth Arena is a world-class venue now and it will remain so, whatever it is called.
“As promised at the last election, the McGowan Government is in the process of securing a naming rights sponsor for Perth Arena.”
Under the previous deal by the Liberal-National government, arena operator AEG Ogden had been paid almost $8 million since 2012 as compensation for not being able to sell naming rights, that deal expires at the end of this month.
