Queensland Reds Kick Off International Program with Wales Showdown at Suncorp Stadium

The anticipated rugby match between the Queensland Reds and Wales at Suncorp Stadium this Friday marks the beginning of an International Program that will see the Reds engage with five different rugby nations.

Continuing their successful partnership, the Reds are set to tour Japan in late October-November, culminating in a full cap fixture against the Saitama Panasonic Wild Knights. The tour builds on previous encounters, with the Reds securing a 55-30 win at Kumagaya Stadium in 2022 and a narrow 31-29 victory at Ballymore Stadium in 2023.

The Queensland Rugby Union has announced one of the most diverse international schedules for any Super Rugby Pacific club, emphasising their commitment to global rugby engagements. The clash against Wales is expected to draw over 20,000 fans to Suncorp Stadium, marking their first encounter since 1991. Following this, the Reds will face Tonga’s national teams in Nuku’alofa on July 26, supported by the Australian Government’s PacificAus Sports program.

After the Pacific tour, the Reds will head to Japan for further matches before embarking on a European tour. Pre-season fixtures against English side Bristol and Irish side Ulster will serve as quality preparations ahead of the 2025 Super Rugby Pacific season, providing invaluable experience against top-tier opposition.

Queensland Rugby Union Chief Executive David Hanham highlighted the significance of these international fixtures in shaping players’ skills and expanding the Reds’ global presence. The matches against diverse opponents in varied playing conditions are expected to enhance the Reds’ competitiveness and depth.

With the support of the Australian Government’s PacificAus Sports program, the Reds are poised to engage in high-caliber competitions, fostering sports diplomacy and providing opportunities for athletes from the Pacific region to access elite training and coaching both in Australia and abroad
