Queensland Government Establishes Statutory Body To Deliver Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games

Queensland State Parliament has introduced The Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Amendment Bill 2024 to establish a dedicated statutory body, responsible for preparing Brisbane for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Games Venue and Legacy Delivery Authority is set to focus on the construction and legacy of venues, ensuring that all chosen venues will serve Queensland now and in the future.

The Authority will function independently of the Queensland Government, with full control over its finances, operational activities, and structural framework, while still adhering to public sector accountability standards.

Its formation is a strategic move to mitigate the influence of government electoral cycles on long-term project deliverables and infrastructure development critical to the Games and subsequent legacy initiatives.

The Authority is expected to be operational by mid-2024, with an interim CEO to be appointed shortly, followed by 7 independent board members, selected by a panel of chief executives from the Games Delivery Partners.

A Transport and Mobility Strategy will also be developed within 18 months of its establishment, again in collaboration with Games Delivery Partners.

The bill is now be reviewed by a parliamentary committee, which is scheduled to report its findings next month.
