Queensland Cricket Foundation Hopes To Lead Community Cricket Change

Queensland Cricket has announced the launch of the Queensland Cricket Foundation, with the hopes of fundraising and investing in cricket initiatives targeted at creating positive change in communities.

As part of the launch, Queensland Cricket has named Youngcare founder, David Conry, as the inaugural chair of the foundation, with Conry to be supported by former banker, David Goffage, Queensland Cricket chairman, Chris Simpson, Queensland Cricket CEO, Terry Svenson, Queensland Cricket chief operating officer, Liam Hibbert, and Foundation manager, Lucy Hirst.

On the launch of the foundation, Svenson said the funds raised through the foundation will come from a combination of tax-deductible donations, corporate partnerships, and major events.

“We are very grateful to David Conry and David Goffage for agreeing to join with us as part of our inaugural Foundation committee and provide us with their insights and expertise to help us build towards our stated aims of supporting our four key pillars,” Svenson said.

“The Queensland Cricket Foundation can, and will do, a great deal of good both now and in the future for our cricket community and we believe that it will be strongly supported.

“We want to run programs that all Queenslanders – no matter their age, gender, ability or background can participate in; build infrastructure that makes our participants feel safe and welcome; create memorable experiences for participants that might not otherwise have the opportunity; and ensure cricket is a game that all Queenslanders have the opportunity to play and enjoy.

“We have a great opportunity in front of us to create a legacy for Queenslanders and our communities, and we are looking forward to seeing the impact we know the Foundation can have.

“We will continue to speak to prominent Queenslanders about joining the Foundation committee and bringing their individual skills and passions to the group,” he said.

On his new role, Conry said: “It’s an exciting opportunity to work alongside Queensland Cricket and I thank them for providing me with the chance to be involved and creating a bright future for Queenslanders and our communities.”

“Sport has the ability to create positive societal change, so it is with a great passion for cricket and giving back, that I am excited to take on this challenge as chair of the Queensland Cricket Foundation,” Conry said.
