Premier League Returns On June 17

English soccer’s top-flight, Premier League will resume on June 17 behind closed doors after being the season was suspended on March 13 due to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic.

Executive from the Premier League’s 20 clubs reached the agreement to resume the season during a shareholders’ meeting on May 28, with reports there will be at least one kick-off slot every day of the week.

All 92 remaining matches of the Premier League season will be broadcast live in the UK by the Premier League’s existing domestic broadcast partners, BBC Sport, Sky Sports, BT Sport, and Amazon Prime.

Premier League CEO, Richard Masters, said the agreement on June 17 is still provisional, depending on the league’s ability to meet safety requirements regarding COVID-19.

“We have provisionally agreed to resume the Premier League on Wednesday, 17th June,” Masters said.

“But this date cannot be confirmed until we have met all the safety requirements needed, as the health and welfare of all participants and supporters is our priority.

“Sadly, matches will have to take place without fans in stadiums, so we are pleased to have come up with a positive solution for supporters to be able to watch all the remaining 92 matches.

“The Premier League and our clubs are proud to have incredibly passionate and loyal supporters.

“It is important to ensure as many people as possible can watch the matches at home.

“We will continue to work step-by-step and in consultation with all our stakeholders as we move towards resuming the 2019/20 season,” he said.

When the season does return, broadcasters have agreed the BBC will show four games live on free-to-air TV, a first for the Premier League, with Sky Sports set to broadcast 64 of the remaining games, with 25 of those available for non-paying customers.

Sky’s pay-TV network rival, BT Sport will show 20 games and Amazon will air the remaining four games via its Prime Video subscription streaming service.
