SURJ Sports Investment, a Public Investment Fund (PIF) company, and the ATP have unveiled plans for a new ATP Masters 1000 tournament to be hosted in Saudi Arabia, the first-ever expansion of the Masters 1000 series.
The event is set to debut as early as 2028, making Saudi Arabia the tenth global host alongside prestigious tournaments in Indian Wells, Miami, Monte-Carlo, Madrid, Rome, Toronto/Montreal, Cincinnati, Shanghai, and Paris.
Commenting on the expansion, chairman of SURJ Sports Investment, Bander Bin Mogren, said: “Bringing an ATP Masters 1000 event to Saudi Arabia is a major step forward for tennis in the region.”
“It reflects our shared commitment with ATP to grow the game globally and deliver a tournament that leaves a lasting legacy,” Mogren said.
Hailing the moment as the result of years in the making, ATP chairman, Andrea Gaudenzi, emphasised Saudi Arabia’s genuine dedication to the sport and the transformative potential of this expansion.
CEO of SURJ Sports Investment, Danny Townsend, described the new Masters 1000 as “a defining moment” that will showcase Saudi Arabia’s emergence as a global sports hub while delivering a world-class experience for players and fans.
This agreement ushers in a new era for international tennis and reinforces Saudi Arabia’s growing presence on the global sports stage.
It also strengthens the strategic partnership between PIF and ATP, which includes the PIF ATP Rankings, collaborations on major tour events, and the co-launch of ATP Tennis IQ Powered by PIF, a next-generation analytics platform.
Agreement Terms
Under the new deal, the Saudi tournament will become a shareholder in ATP Media, joining other Masters 1000 events in shaping the sport’s global broadcast future.
The tournament will also drive grassroots tennis development through a national program in partnership with the Saudi Tennis Federation, promoting inclusivity, accessibility, and youth participation — aligning with PIF’s mission to foster sport at all levels.
Further details on the venue and dates will be announced in due course.
