Piastri Case Could End Up In High Court

F1 racing team, Alpine, could receive millions in compensation at the London High Court if their Australian reserve driver, Oscar Piastri, doesn’t race for them next season.

The team announced Piastri last week as the replacement for double world champion Fernando Alonso in 2023, however, Piastri ruled it out the move.

Szafnauer said Alpine were prepared for a legal battle once the sport’s August break was over.

“Going to the High Court is over 90% certain that’s what we’ll do,” Szafnauer said.

“If the CRB says ‘your licence is only valid at Alpine’, and then he (Piastri) says ‘that’s great but I’m never driving for them, I’ll just sit out a year’, then you’ve got to go to the High Court for compensation,” he said.

Additionally, Alpine have spent heavily on getting Piastri tests in last year’s car, including a test at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin.

Tickets are now available for the fourth annual Women In Sport Summit, which will provide real stories, skills and career moves, from administrators to athletes, and will give a platform for honest conversations and exclusive networking opportunities, with game-changing discussions about the growth, value, and the future of women in sport.
