Paralympic Australia Obtains $2.086 Million From Federal Government for 2026 Paralympic Games

Paralympics Australia has welcomed a new AUD$2.068 million funding commitment from the Federal Government to support preparation for the Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games.

The announcement was made by Minister for Sport Anika Wells during an event in the NSW Snowy Mountains attended by prospective Winter Paralympians. The funding is part of the Government’s ongoing investment in Paralympic high performance and athlete development.

The allocation will support a range of critical functions, including high-performance training, sports medicine, logistics, communications, and operational support. The objective is to ensure athletes are fully resourced to perform at their peak during the Games.

Minister Wells said the investment reflects the Government’s broader commitment to inclusion, performance, and national representation. “We aren’t just helping athletes get to the Games; we want them to thrive there. This funding ensures they are supported to prepare, perform, and strive for gold in Italy,” she said.

The funding forms part of the Albanese Government’s broader AUD$55 million investment in Paralympic high-performance sport—described by Minister Wells as the largest government commitment in Australia’s history to Paralympic programs.

Cameron Murray, CEO of Paralympics Australia, said the funding is critical to maintaining Australia’s competitive edge in the demanding Winter Games environment. “Every aspect of our team’s preparation—from medical services and athlete wellbeing to travel logistics and village operations—has been considered,” Murray said.

The funding will cover physiotherapy, nutrition, psychological support, travel coordination, and accommodation planning. It also enables Paralympics Australia to deliver an athlete-centred preparation model, aimed at maximising performance outcomes in Milan and Cortina.

This continued support reflects Australia’s strategic focus on long-term Paralympic success and the broader ambition to elevate the visibility and impact of the Paralympic Movement both domestically and internationally.
