Nine’s broadcast of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 has captivated 14.8 million Australians within the first four days, reinforcing the unparalleled appeal and impact of the Olympic Games. Channel 9 and 9Gem have been pivotal in delivering this extensive coverage, accounting for nearly 75% of the total audience.
The comprehensive 24/7 Olympic coverage on Channel 9 and 9Gem has engaged 12.2 million viewers across Australia. Notably, on Day 3, prime time on these channels secured a commanding 61.6% share of the 25-54 demographic and an impressive 67% share of the 16-39 age group in the 5 City Metro. The first three days alone achieved a National Total TV Reach of 14.8 million, marking Nine’s highest reach in VOZ history through live broadcast, live streaming, and on-demand television.
The news segments on 9News also contributed significantly, attracting a Total TV audience of 1.6 million and setting a new record for 9Now with 212,000 viewers. Impressively, 9Now is delivering an incremental reach of nearly 20%, with half of its audience under the age of 40.
Michael Stephenson, Nine’s Chief Sales Officer, highlighted the significance of these numbers, stating, “The Olympic Games are demonstrating the power of Total TV. The audience figures are undeniable, showing that live broadcast, live streaming, and on-demand television are the most effective platforms for advertisers.”
He emphasised the foundational role of live broadcast audiences, which make up 75% of the Total TV audience. “9Now is enhancing our reach by almost 20%, and with 50% of its audience under 40, it complements our live broadcast perfectly,” Stephenson added. “Nine and 9Now together are a powerhouse, offering the best of both broadcast and digital worlds.”
Stephenson concluded by asserting the broader implications of these results, stating, “This is not just about the Olympics; it’s about the strength of Total Television. Advertisers who invest in live broadcast, live streaming, and on-demand TV are seeing superior business outcomes.”
These viewership numbers not only highlight the Olympic Games’ ability to captivate diverse audiences but also underscore the enduring power and relevance of Total TV in today’s media landscape.
