NFL, NFLPA Announce Release Of Licensed Virtual Reality Game

The National Football League (NFL) and the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) have announced the release of the virtual reality game, NFL PRO ERA, made in partnership with StatusPro.

The technology company, co-founded by former NFL players Troy Jones and Andrew Hawkins, StatusPro has worked with ‘best-in-class’ developers to replicate the point-of-view of athletes in the game with a first-person, 3D experience as well as ambient sounds and a stadium atmosphere.

The game has been made available globally on VR-game store Meta Quest 2, and on PlayStation VR platforms.

The NFLPA license will give fans the chance to play current NFL rosters, with a first-person, 3D gaming experience providing a point-of-view of the athletes on the field.

Commenting on the partnership, NFL VP of video gaming, Ed Kiang, said: “The NFL is excited to partner with StatusPro, which has developed cutting-edge VR technology and leveraged their expertise as former football players to create an incredibly immersive NFL experience.”

StatusPro chief executive officer and co-founder, Jones, added: “At StatusPro, we are excited for football fans and anyone to know what it is like to be an NFL quarterback, to play NFL PRO ERA.”

“We are offering a wide variety of game play modes for players of all levels to really experience what it feels like on the field,” he said.

StatusPro president and co-founder, Hawkins, continued: “We are excited for fans to feel how fun it is to make the plays and game decisions of an NFL quarterback.”

“Getting to relish in the energy of thousands of cheering fans, in your favourite stadium, as you get a glimpse of what it takes to compete at the highest level in our game is truly something I feel every football fan is going to remember forever,” he said.

The release of this game comes following the introduction of the NFL’s weekly eSports night.
