NFL expands global reach with content partnership with Globo in Brazil

In a move to broaden its global footprint, the National Football League (NFL) has inked a content agreement with the prominent Brazilian television network, Globo. This collaboration sets the stage for an exclusive delivery of NFL content in Brazil, offering fans an immersive experience through Globo’s extensive platforms.

Globo will provide exclusive content from the NFL to audiences in Brazil. All-encompassing NFL highlights and related content will be accessible on Globo Sports (GE) platforms. A dedicated NFL page will serve as a hub for first-party content and co-produced material tailored specifically for the Brazilian audience.

This content deal in Brazil holds particular significance as it precedes the highly anticipated first NFL game set to take place in the country. Sao Paulo is gearing up to host a regular-season matchup in 2024, marking a monumental moment for gridiron enthusiasts in Brazil. The NFL estimates a fanbase of approximately 38 million in the country, and the collaboration with Globo, boasting 34 million active users, is poised to provide unparalleled exposure in anticipation of the league’s debut in the region.

“Partnering with the largest media group in the country is significant and accelerates our goal to bring fans closer to the NFL around the world,” said Terence Ihm, the Director of International Business Development at the NFL.

Carina Guedes, Globo’s Head of Sports Digital Products, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the strategic partnership’s alignment with their vision of creating innovative business models.

“This strategic partnership reflects our vision of creating innovative business models to help leagues and sports IP owners connect with their fanbases in more meaningful and impactful ways,” Guedes noted.

While the date for the NFL regular-season game in Sao Paulo is yet to be confirmed, an exciting detail has been revealed— the match will take place at the Arena Corinthians, the iconic home ground of Brazilian soccer giants SC Corinthians.

There has also been speculation this week that the game will be scheduled for the first week of the 2024 NFL season, placing it under an even brighter spotlight.
