Moovosity: A Physical Education & Movement Software For Children

To celebrate the global HYPE SPIN Accelerator program, Ministry of Sport has partnered with the University of Queensland (UQ) to deliver the 2019 Tech In Sport event at Victoria Park in Brisbane on July 10th.

The HYPE UQ SPIN Accelerator is a global program that was developed to champion entrepreneurship and sports tech innovation, whilst providing access to mentors and investors from around the world to fast-track promising local startups onto the world stage.

In the lead-up to the event, Ministry of Sport is interviewing the final 10 graduates about their cutting edge sports tech products, as they prepare their final pitches for the chance to win $25,000 and entry to one of AusTrade’s Landing Pad programs.

Founded in 2017, Moovosity is a physical education and movement skills software platform, which was designed to empower and enable educators to teach children the fundamentals of movement – giving them the confidence and competence to live healthy, happy lives through physical activity.

Ministry of Sport had a chat with Scott Jenson, Co-Founder and CEO of Moovosity, about the company and their involvement in the HYPE SPIN Accelerator program.

Q1: Why did you start this business?

We founded Moovosity because we care deeply about the health and wellbeing of this generation of children. The unfortunate reality is that our kids are less physically active than ever before, and regressing in the basic fundamental skills such as throwing, catching, jumping and running. The consequence of this change in behaviour is the negative impact on physical, social, cognitive and academic development. We recognised the critical role educators play in providing children with the skills and knowledge to prosper, and want to unlock the value of physical education in those learning environments.

Q2: Is there another product like this in the market place? How is yours different?

The value of embedding daily physical activity in children’s lives has long been researched and recognised. As such, there are various solutions and interventions that aim to affect a positive change to current trends. Moovosity puts educators first. We aim to build capability and capacity by providing a total solution: trustworthy content, planning & assessment tools, reporting & student insights as well as a student engagement offering.

Q3: What are some key lessons you have learned on the journey so far?

Putting the customer first in everything we do – from designing and building the product right through to how we communicate and engage with our audiences.

Q4: What are your plans for the future?

In the Short term, our core focus is on creating as much value as possible for teachers and educators within the early years learning and primary school environments. We’ll do this by constantly engaging with our customers and refining our offering to make their lives easier. If we get that right, our research proves that we can positively impact the lives of their students through physical activity. Longer term, we’ll be looking to enhance the offering with additional sport and content partnerships and extend into new markets.

Q5: What has your experience been like in the UQ HYPE SPIN accelerator program?

We’ve thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s been a fantastic opportunity to build relationships, interrogate & refine what we’re doing with Moovosity and collect the different perspectives that come from sharing rooms with other businesses and individuals. The short term value, therefore, has been readily apparent and we’ve no doubt that Moovosity can benefit from HYPE’s global network of relationships and skills in the future.
