Matchroom Boxing Agrees Exclusive UK Broadcast Rights Deal With DAZN

Matchroom Boxing has agreed to an exclusive United Kingdom (UK) broadcast rights deal with streaming subscription service, DAZN, in a partnership which The Athletic describes as being “well into nine figures”.

The figures for the new contract have not yet been made public, but The Athletic reports it as a “record-breaking deal”.

This will end Matchroom’s partnership with pay TV network, Sky Sports, which has been in place since 2012, with the reported new deal kicking in on July 1, once their current deal expires.

Sky Sports have exclusively broadcast Matchroom events in the UK and Ireland through the duration of their deal.

Matchroom last signed a six-year contract with Sky Sports back in 2015, which agreed to cover 120 fights per year.

DAZN has been working exclusively in the United States (US) since 2018, with Matchroom boss, Eddie Hearn, describing DAZN as “the future of boxing”.

Whilst the agreement will see established British and Irish fighters including Katie Taylor, Conor Benn, Lawrence Okolie and Callum Smith fight on DAZN, the deal does not include heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, or heavyweight contender Dillian Whyte, according to The Athletic.
