anchester City has been identified as the most innovative sports team worldwide by Sports Innovation Lab, a research and market intelligence firm.
The top ten most innovative clubs primarily include European soccer clubs, with NBA teams Sacramento Kings in tenth place, and Golden State Warriors in sixth place.
The New England Patriots are the top NFL team, at 13th place, and the Green Bay Packers follow in 14th.
The only MLB team to be included are the Chicago Cubs ranked 20th.
The most profitable sporting leagues were chosen by Sports Innovation Lab to pick from, with elite teams then being assessed across the categories of; technology alignment, revenue diversification, and organisational agility.
Over 8,000 data sources and more than 150,000 market signals were analysed by the firm’s technology to assess the ranking of each team.
Sports innovation Lab co-founder and chief executive, Angela Ruggiero, said: “The global pandemic hit the sports industry with tremendous force in March and as a result, it changed the entire business landscape as we formally knew it.”
“In order to continue growing and flourishing in this new reality, organisations must be nimble by embracing the most innovative operations and adapting to the ‘fluid fan’.
“With this list, we’re celebrating a group of trailblazers who have continued to drive their businesses forward, despite these unprecedented circumstances,” Ruggiero said.
Sports Innovation Lab co-founder and president, Josh Walker, said: “Our team of analysts masterfully identified patterns of success among the world’s most nimble and well-prepared sports organisations.”

Manchester City (Premier League), Real Madrid (La Liga), Arsenal (Premier League), Barcelona (La Liga), Bayern Munich (Bundesliga), Manchester United (Premier League), Golden State Warriors (NBA), Paris Saint-Germain (Ligue 1), Juventus (Serie A), Sacramento Kings (NBA), Liverpool (Premier League), Philadelphia 76ers (NBA), New England Patriots (NFL); Green Bay Packers (NFL), AS Roma (Serie A), Borussia Dortmund (Bundesliga), Tottenham Hotspur (Premier League), Toronto Raptors (NBA), Seattle, Seahawks (NFL), Chicago Cubs (MLB), Los Angeles Clippers (NBA), San Francisco 49ers (NFL), Cleveland Cavaliers (NBA), Atlético Madrid (La Liga), and Schalke 04 (Bundesliga).
Notably, eight of the top ten, including the top six ranking sporting organisations, are European-based football clubs, with the rest of the list scattered with a large portion of other European football clubs throughout.
