LIV Golf Secures DAZN Broadcast Deal

After PGA-related turbulence, the Saudi-backed LIV Golf competition has signed an international broadcast rights deal with DAZN.

Front Office Sports reported DAZN acquired rights to cover German-speaking countries, US, Canada, Japan, Italy and Spain.

LIV Golf has also made broadcast deals with DirecTV, covering Latin America, Sina Sports for China and L’Equipe providing coverage in France.

The announcement comes following reports LIV Golf failed to acquire UK rights through BT Sports and Sky Sports.

The LIV series at the Centurion Club in St Albans, failing to establish a UK broadcast partner, continues to screen the 9 June – 11 June tournament via Facebook, YouTube and the LIV Golf website.

Considering lifetime bans on LIV Golfers, the PGA’s aggressive stance on former competitors has seen two-time PGA Tour winner, Phil Mickelson, continue his commitment to the breakaway tournament.

“I am incredibly grateful for what this game and the PGA Tour has given me,” Mickelson said.

“I would like to think that I have given back as well but now I am excited about this new opportunity,” he said.

The series continues to be seen as controversial as Saudi Arabia has been accused of ‘sports washing’ their human rights record.
