he Los Angeles Lakers have hired global sports agency, Sportfive, to find the NBA team’s next jersey patch sponsor, which was valued at USD$199 million (AUD$258 million) in sponsor media value for the 2019/20 NBA season by Nielsen Sports.

Sportfive will work to secure a new jersey sponsor for the Lakers in time for the start of the 2021/22 NBA season in October, targeting both domestic and international brands.

As well as seeking a new jersey patch sponsor, Sportfive will work to secure up to three international brand sponsorships for the Lakers through the NBA’s recently approved expanded international sponsorship rights.

Lakers president of business operations, Tim Harris, said: “We view the Lakers as a global brand with an international presence.”

“It’s important to us to partner with an agency whose reach equals our ambition.

“Sportfive understands the values of the Lakers organisation and our desire to find a jersey patch sponsor that aligns with those values,” Harris said.

Sportfive CEO, Stefan Felsing, said the Lakers are one of the world’s most transcendent sports franchises, reaching more than 200 countries with a dominant social media following.

“The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the most prestigious sports franchises in the world and we’re proud they have selected us to help secure their next jersey patch sponsor,” Felsing said.

“With our vast global network and extensive experience in commercial development for rightsholders, we are ideally-suited to identify the right partner for one of the premier sponsorship positions in global sports, with a brand that matches the Lakers’ values and history of excellence,” he said.
