Knights Sign Memorandum of Understanding with Greater Northern Region

The nib Newcastle Knights has announced a signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Greater Northern Region. This partnership aims to enhance the Knights’ comprehensive pathways program, ensuring that local talent has a clear route to success.

This agreement forges a stronger bond between the Knight’s and local clubs, schools, and leagues across the Group 21, Group 4, and Group 19 regions. As part of the initiative, the Club will establish regional academies, aimed at providing consistent coaching, education, and development opportunities for aspiring athletes.

Commenting on the partnership, Knights Director of Football, Peter Parr, said: “You can feel the excitement around this partnership.”

“This region is integral to the Knights’ identity and underpins our strategic vision. We are eager to collaborate with everyone involved to cultivate a long-lasting relationship and extend our gratitude to all who contributed to this partnership,” Parr said.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the collaboration, Football Director from the Greater Northern Region, James Cooper, added: “The Northern Region is excited to officially partner with the Newcastle Knights. We have been thoroughly impressed by the professionalism shown by Simon Healey and his team during the negotiation phase.”

“With a specialised team at the Newcastle Knights focused on nurturing our region’s coaches and emerging talent across both male and female pathways, we’re looking forward to the numerous advantages this partnership will bring in the years ahead,” Cooper added. 

Both male and female players from the Greater Northern Region can now look forward to an encouraging pathway that brings them closer to their dream of joining the Knights, supported by Knights-branded resources and dedicated staff to maintain a strong connection with the community.

The Greater Northern Region holds a prominent place in the Knights’ heritage, having produced notable players like Steve Simpson and Jarrod Mullen, along with current stars such as Brock Greacen and Jules Kirkpatrick.

This MOU marks the establishment of a more structured development pathway, allowing talented individuals from local leagues to transition seamlessly into the Knights’ system.
