Kansas City Celebrates Women’s Sports Milestone with CPKC Stadium Opening
In a landmark event for women’s professional sports, Kansas City unveiled the CPKC Stadium, the first of its kind globally, dedicated solely to a women’s sports team. The opening marks a historic moment for the Kansas City Current soccer team and women’s sports worldwide, signifying a significant shift towards recognising and celebrating female athletes’ achievements.
Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) and the Kansas City Current celebrated this monumental achievement together, highlighting the power of collaboration and support in pushing the boundaries of women’s sports. CPKC President and CEO Keith Creel voiced his pride in this partnership, emphasising CPKC’s commitment to women’s professional sports and community investment. The inauguration of CPKC Stadium, according to Creel, is a testament to breaking barriers and forging new paths of success for women’s sports in Kansas City and beyond.
The Kansas City Current’s home game victory in the newly minted stadium was a fitting christening for the ground, symbolising the team’s promising future and the potential for women’s sports to captivate and inspire communities. Fans from diverse backgrounds, including international supporters, packed the stadium to its 11,500 capacity, showcasing the universal appeal and support for women’s soccer.
