IOC Launches 2023 Esports Series

The International Olympics Committee (IOC) has made history by announcing the launch of the first-ever Olympics Esports Series 2023.

Both pro and amateur players from around the world are invited to participate in qualification rounds for 18 video games across nine sports including Archery, Baseball, Chess, Cycling, Dance, Motor Sport, Sailing, Taekwondo, and Tennis.

Players who are successful in qualifying will be invited to take part in a live, in-person finals event that will be held at Singapore’s Suntec Center from June 22 to 25.

The Olympic Esports Final 2023 will also be streamed globally across the Olympics website as well as its social media channels.

Commenting on the launch, IOC Esports Liaison Group chair, David Lappartient, said: “The Olympic Movement brings people together in peaceful competition.”

“The Olympic Esports Series 2023 is a continuation of that, with the ambition of creating more spaces to play for both players and fans of elite competition.

“We look forward to witnessing some of the world’s best compete on the global stage, as well as exploring together shared opportunities and lessons – across health and wellbeing, training and innovation,” he said.

With the launch of the Olympics Esports Series 2023, the IOC is continuing its efforts to expand the Olympic Games beyond traditional sporting events and introduce new, innovative experiences that are inclusive and appeal to a wider audience.
