Honda Named Title Sponsor Of Japanese Grand Prix

Formula One (F1) has announced Honda as the title sponsor of the 2022 Japanese Grand Prix, despite the company pulling out of engine manufacturing last year due to the business challenges posed by electrifying road cars.

The event will be held at Suzuka Circuit, which is owned by Honda, on 7-9 October, with the race’s official name being the Formula 1 Honda Japanese Grand Prix 2022.

Honda walked away from F1 and, the Red Bull and AlphaTauri teams last season, after Max Verstappen guided the first Honda powered car to a world championship since Ayrton Senna in 1991.

Commenting on the announcement, Honda operating executive and head of corporate communications supervisory unit, Koji Watanabe, said: “It is great pleasure for Honda to be named as the title sponsor of the F1 Japanese Grand Prix to be held at the Suzuka Circuit which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.”

“In this year’s Japanese Grand Prix, 10 teams including Oracle Red Bull Racing and Scuderia AlphaTauri, which Honda supports as a team partner, will compete with 20 drivers who will demonstrate their driving skills and talent at the highest peak in the world of racing.

“By contributing to this outstanding Grand Prix, Honda will continue supporting the further promotion and popularization of motorsports in Japan,” Watanabe said.

The announcement comes after Singapore Airlines extended its agreement with Formula One, continuing as the Singapore Grand Prix title sponsor for another three years.
