Hampshire Cricket Club is poised to lead a sustainability revolution in cricket, aiming to inspire positive changes in the sport with its new naming rights partner, Utilita.

The English county’s stadium will now be known as Utilita Bowl, following a multi-year deal with the energy provider, marking a departure from the previous naming rights holder, Ageas.

While the financial details of the agreement remain undisclosed, Utilita’s Chief Marketing Officer, Jem Maidment, emphasised the commitment as a “seven-figure” investment. The collaboration seeks to position Utilita Bowl as the world’s greenest cricket ground, with Utilita guiding and supporting the venue to achieve this ambitious goal.

David Mann, CEO at Utilita Bowl, highlighted the cultural fit between the two entities, noting the alignment of brand values and their shared disruptive approach to established markets. The expanded pact with Utilita, based in Hampshire, has been in discussions for over a year.

The partnership’s initial focus involves the installation of over 1,000 solar panels, capable of generating approximately 25 percent of the stadium’s annual electricity consumption and covering the energy needs during match days. This solar array is expected to save the venue a substantial six-figure sum annually in electricity costs, along with reducing carbon emissions by 80 tonnes per year – equivalent to the environmental impact of driving 301,855 miles in an average passenger vehicle.

Mann highlighted that the cost savings would enable further investments in the venue, enhancing facilities and the overall customer experience. He expressed enthusiasm for being at the forefront of sustainable initiatives, emphasising the venue’s historical firsts – such as hosting the first-ever T20 international – and the desire to set a trail for others to follow.
