Genius Sports expands FIBA partnership with AI-powered tech

FIBA, the international governing body for basketball, has extended its enduring collaboration with Genius Sports, the global sports data technology company, until 2035.

In this renewed partnership, Genius Sports has been appointed as FIBA’s official partner for data and video capture and production. Additionally, the company will serve as the official innovation and technology services partner for the federation from 2025 for a decade.

As part of the expanded agreement, Genius Sports will deploy AI-powered technology to automate official data collection, live video production and optical player tracking for basketball leagues and national federations worldwide.

The cutting-edge technology is designed to offer users access to coaching tools, analytics, automated officiating and broadcast augmentation tools. It is anticipated to revolutionise the entire data and video ecosystem of international basketball, providing a unified solution to automate and synchronise live game statistics and video production with advanced player tracking.

Having collaborated since 2004, Genius Sports and FIBA have previously delivered FIBA LiveStats and FIBA Organiser offerings to over 200 leagues and national federations globally. These tools have been instrumental in collecting official play-by-play statistics and fostering digital transformation across all levels of the sport.

“For almost 20 years, FIBA and Genius Sports have joined forces in developing the most innovative tools for leagues and national federations across all levels of basketball,” explained Andreas Zagklis, FIBA Secretary General.

“Through this automated solution, our objective is to assist national federations and leagues to increase their reach and revenue and at the same time, reduce costs.

“We’re delighted to expand our partnership with Genius Sports to achieve this goal and equip the FIBA family with first access to this cutting-edge technology in basketball.”

Zagklis highlighted the objective of assisting national federations and leagues in enhancing their reach, revenue, and efficiency through the automated solution.

“We’re thrilled to expand our landmark partnership with FIBA, equipping leagues and national federations with state-of-the-art technology to transform how their fans, coaches, officials, broadcasters, and sponsors interact with live data and video,” Mark Locke, CEO of Genius Sports, added.

“Powered by our unique AI-driven system, leagues and national federations at all levels of basketball will be able to automate data and video collection and utilise the highest quality player and team tracking data.”
