GameSquare Esports Acquires Jerry Jones’ Complexity Gaming

Toronto-based organisation, GameSquare Esports, has acquired esports franchise, Complexity Gaming, for USD$26.7million (AUD$35.7million).

The deal is reported to be an all-stock transaction with Complexity’s shareholders receiving 83.3 million common shares in GameSquare.

Current Complexity owners Jerry Jones (Dallas Cowboys owner), Jason Lake (Complexity founder), and John Goff, will own around 47% of GameSquare.

GameSquare have already signed a multi-year gaming partnership with the Dallas Cowboys where Complexity’s headquarters are currently located with the team sporting the famous NFL team’s logo.

On the announcement, Complexity and Dallas Cowboys owner, Jerry Jones, said: “Professional gaming has grown at an incredible pace in the three-and-a-half years since our group acquired Complexity.”

“I am confident that the partnership with GameSquare will fast-track revenue growth at Complexity while staying true to the team’s commitment to winning,” he said.

GameSquare chief executive, Justin Kenna, lauded the efforts of Complexity Gaming within the esports industry.

“Complexity’s rich history in esports and gaming was a natural fit for GameSquare as we strive to build the future of esports,” Kenna said.

“They are a powerhouse combination of winning teams, world-class facilities, and professional management, and the value of the relationships with the Dallas Cowboys, the Jones family, and the Goff family cannot be understated.

“In my view, Complexity has built a tremendous foundation that is perfectly positioned for its next phase of growth and profitability.

“We see huge potential to monetise the incredible content that Complexity creates every year and numerous opportunities to create merchandise that allow fans to show their loyalty to one of America’s greatest esports teams,” he said.

Cowboys CFO, Tom Walker, and Goff Capital president, Travis Goff, will join the GameSquare board while Jason Lake will remain Complexity’s CEO as well as becoming global head of esports for GameSquare.
