Foxtel To Launch Pop-Up Channel For Women’s Sport On International Women’s Day

Pay-TV provider, Foxtel, will be showcasing a week-long schedule of women’s sports programming on a special pop-up channel FOXW, to celebrate International Women’s Day in 2020.

FOXW will be available from Monday, March 2 to Sunday, March 8 and will focus a spotlight on women’s sports, showing and celebrating the skill, excitement, courage and tenacity of Australia’s female athletes and how #herostartswithher.

FOXW will host the World Premiere of the six-part series CALL MY NAME on Monday, March 2 at 7.00pm. CALL MY NAME features special interviews of some of Australia’s biggest and best current female athletes including cricketer Ellyse Perry, Matilda Sam Kerr, Basketballer Liz Cambage, AFLW star and boxer Tayla Harris, major golf champion Hannah Green and professional rugby league player Tiana Penitani.

FOXW will simulcast FOX CRICKET’s LIVE broadcasts of the semi-finals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2020 on Thursday, March 5 and also the Sunday, March 8 Final on International Women’s Day at the MCG which hopes to break the record of 90,185 people attending a single women’s sports event.

The channel will also include LIVE coverage of various women’s sports events including game 2 of the WNBL Grand Final Series, six games of the round 5 of AFLW and game 1 of the Hockeyroos in their series against Argentina.

In additional to live sports broadcasts, the FOXW schedule will feature a range of supporting programming for viewers across the week.

“As Australia’s leading sports broadcaster FOX SPORTS has also become the loudest voice in support of women in sport with Foxtel broadcasting more women’s sport, all in one place, than any other Australian broadcaster,” Head of FOX SPORTS, Peter Campbell, said.

“We set out to celebrate and put a spotlight on female participation in sport to mark International Women’s Day, but quickly realized that we couldn’t do it in a day, so we will do it all week on a dedicated pop-up channel FOXW on Foxtel.

“Female participation in sports is increasing every day and we now see the sporting world in a very unique position with professional avenues for numerous sports such as AFLW, WBBL, WNBL, W League, NRLW and Super W, all of which are broadcast right here on FOX SPORTS.

“FOX SPORTS not only showcases the best female athletes but we also have some of the best female presenters covering sports, including women’s sport – they are authentic, passionate sports fans as well as excellent journalists and presenters, and we will also celebrate them across this special week of programming on FOXW.

“FOXW on Foxtel is a week-long celebration and spotlight of women in sport.

“But for FOX SPORTS, this isn’t a one-week stunt.

“Our commitment to women in sport – on the field, in production, in our newsrooms, behind the scenes and in key executive and administrative roles at FOX SPORTS is all year round – we are simply showcasing a part of that commitment, all in one place, for one week.”

FOXW (Channel 507) will launch at 12.01 am on Monday, March 2 and will run through to midnight on Sunday, March 8.

The channel will be available to all Foxtel sports subscribers and will also be available to stream on Foxtel GO and Foxtel Now services. Programming content will also be available to stream on-demand.
