Cricket Victoria has marked a significant milestone with the launch of its inaugural Female Only Advanced Coaching Course, which aims to empower the next generation of female cricket coaches throughout the state.
Conducted at the CitiPower Centre, this pioneering course attracted 24 enthusiastic participants, notably including members of the Afghanistan Women’s team, Nahida Sapan and Shabnam Ahsan.
Reflecting on the experience, Nahida and Shabnam, said: “We’re really happy to have taken part in the Female Only Advanced Coaching Course.”
“It was a great learning experience that helped us grow our coaching skills and connect with other women in cricket,” they said.
Cricket Victoria’s Community Coach Development Specialist, Chris Harris, added: “As the first of many Female Only Advanced Coaching Courses, we hope to generate future growth in female cricket across Victoria.”
“This is a step forward in encouraging female coaches to create quality cricket learning environments for their teams, where players of all abilities can have fun and learn the skills of the game,” Harris said.
The course received valuable support from Cricket Australia, CommBank’s Growing Cricket for Girls Fund, and the Australian Cricketers’ Association (ACA).
It focused on equipping participants with essential technical coaching abilities while emphasising the importance of fostering a positive and engaging learning atmosphere.
This dual approach is designed to ensure that young female cricketers feel supported, motivated, and encouraged to develop their skills.
Such collaboration is anticipated to inspire and mentor aspiring female coaches, ultimately contributing to the growth of women’s cricket in Victoria and beyond.
