FC Barcelona Secures ‘Zero-Knowledge Proof’ as Official Partner

image

FC Barcelona has confirmed a new technological partnership with Zero-Knowledge Proof (ZKP), a decentralised AI and privacy-first blockchain entity. The agreement designates ZKP as the club’s Official Cryptographic Protocol Partner, with the collaboration set to run through to 2028.

The partnership focuses on integrating advanced cryptographic technologies into the club’s digital infrastructure.

ZKP’s core offering revolves around the concept of “cryptographic trust”, verifying information via mathematical processes without exposing the underlying data.

This aligns with the club’s stated objective to handle fan identities, data, and intelligence with a higher standard of privacy and security.

Under the terms of the deal, Zero-Knowledge Proof will secure access to digital advertising assets across FC Barcelona’s various communication channels. Additionally, the agreement includes provisions for offering branded “Barça experiences” to the club’s massive global fanbase, leveraging the new technology to deliver these interactions.

Strategic perspective

The collaboration signals a shift in how sports organisations manage the intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data privacy.

The club has indicated that ZKP’s technology will be used to create a new standard for data usage in the global sports context.

In this proposed model, digital experiences can be personalised for fans without compromising their privacy, a critical balance for rights holders navigating increasingly strict global data regulations.

Furthermore, the partnership extends to the performance side of the business. AI systems provided or secured by the protocol will be utilised to analyse athlete data.

The key differentiator cited is the ability to perform this analysis securely, ensuring sensitive performance metrics are not disclosed or used inappropriately. This application of “Zero-Knowledge” principles, where data is verified but not revealed which addresses a major concern in the digitisation of athlete biometrics.

By integrating a partner focused on transparency and accountability, the club aims to consolidate its status as a preferred platform for innovation.
